We're back on with The Salon this month!
And I'm thrilled to announce that we are finally returning to the Kulturschöpfer living room! Of course, following all the proper rules and regs. How about that?
So, what is The Salon?
The Salon is a free, monthly meeting place for anyone interested in art and culture. Each month we create a space for exchange and learning in the style of an art salon, where local Berlin artists are given a platform to share the decisions and processes behind their artistic projects, and where participants can explore a range of topics and concerns related to contemporary art practice.Who are the artists this month?
In this month's Salon, we're joined by artists Dolores Mephistopheles, Gaby Bila-Günther, and Denis Eskakov, who will be discussing their work and giving us an insight into their practices. Leading The Salon this month is Jeremy Knowles.- Dolores Mephistopheles was born in Zagreb and is currently based in Berlin. She earned a master degree in museology and heritage management together with educational informatics at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.
After trying different career paths, she decided to follow her childhood dream and pursue painting as a career. She combines energy work with painting and finds a lot of inspiration in dark aspects of human existence. In order to express ideas and release or transform energies, besides painting with brushes, she uses her whole body as a tool.
- LADY GABY AKA Gaby Bila-Günther, originally from Romania, arrived in Berlin via Melbourne. Widely published, her spoken-word, poetry, short stories and non-fiction articles have appeared in international journals, online sites, CD compilations, magazines and literature anthologies. She has performed, curated & showed text-based, photos, collages and video works at many galleries and festivals across Europe, Australia and New York City.
- Denis Esakov is a multimedia artist from Kyrgyzstan. Denis lived in Moscow for many years before moving to Berlin, where he is currently studying on the MA program 'Raumstrategien' at Hochschule Weißensee. Within his practice, Denis explores knowledge issues - its violent sides and the grids it creates. Although Denis was initially inspired by abstract photography, his studies in Philosophy of Art prompted a transition from photography to various other media - video, performance, installation, and sound.
